What’s the difference between Newborn, Lifestyle and Fresh 48 photography ?

A very popular genre of photography is Newborn Photography. This type of photography focuses on babies 28 days or younger. This genre can be further broken into posed Newborn, Lifestyle and Fresh 48. Seem confusing? It can be. Here are some simple definitions:

Fresh 48 Newborn Photography emphasizes the first 48 hours after birth and are often photos taken in the hospital setting or shortly after birth (haha first 48 hours). Examples of this type of picture are those in the hospital bassinet, in the hospital room, cutting the umbilical cord, first weighing & measurements, first feeds, you get the picture!

Lifestyle Newborn Photography emphasizes relationships in the baby’s world. Photos are candid shots of every day. The photographer often looks for connections and encourages organic behavior. No smiling and saying “cheese.” Subjects are encouraged to just do what comes naturally, since life is beautiful just as it is. Photos often center around the love and emotions of it’s subjects.

Posed Newborn Photography focuses on creating images of the baby during the first month or so of life. This imagery is very creative and highlights the baby in curly, classic poses that enhance the natural joy surrounding a baby. Common poses include the angel side pose, bumup pose, froggy, womb wrap and many more.

As a Newborn Photographer, I find that most of my clients prefer a combination of all 3 types of baby imagery All types provide beautiful keepsakes and treasured memories. Nothing is more sacred than a new life and I consder it an honor to be a part of it.
