Iphone photography tips while traveling

This week I am traveling throughout Eastern Europe and visiting Munich-Germany, Prague-Czech R, Brno-Czech, Budapest-Hungary, Slovakia and Croatia. One delemna I always need to resolve is do I pack my nice dslr camera with a variety of lens or my iphone for this trip? Undoubtedly, when I am on a photography trip, such as searching for spoonbill roseates,

Or on safari in India, I will bring my dslr- which has the versatility to shoot the way I need to shoot. But what about a nice tourist visit in Old Town Prague. Then you have some thing to think about.

What will you be using your camera for?

Are you shooting for tourist shots or are you hoping to shoot for photographic purposes, whether pleasure or professional. Today’s iphone has tremendous capability to provide wonderful tourist shots with a few fun hacks:

1-Use fstop in portrait mode– If you want to take pictures of your favorite Aunt Gertie in front of the Golden Gate Bridge and want that beautiful blurry bokeh background, you can acheive that with the portrait mode on your Iphone 11+. Simply select portrait mode and push the f button at the top right of your screen. This allows you to slide to a variety of f stops: f8 and above for more details throughout your picture and down to f2.8 for more bokeh in your background.

2-Use shutter button for a slowed shutter speed effect- slow down motion by playing with the shutter speed on your iphone. In photo mode look for the dot on the top left that looks like a moon with lines. Press and change shutter speed from 1 s up to 3 seconds. This is enough time to slow the shutter down to make beautiful smooth water like this water I photographed in Iceland at 2 seconds. You won’t be able to slow down the shutter speed for silky waterfalls but you can get some fun effects.

3-Finally, shoot in raw on your iphone! You can shoot in raw format on an iphone by pressing the raw button on the top. This allows you to shoot with a great deal of information that can later be downloaded into photoshop and enhanced as you like, giving you a very professional image.

Using these hacks will help you make the decision of what equipment you may or may not need for your next adventure!

Happy Shooting
