When you pick a phototographer you need to know who you are dealing with . . . especially if you want to trust them with your just born baby!!
Consider the following:
1-Photography style-photographers are artists and each one uses their camera to produce an image. The image they produce is a reflection of their style. Always review a photographer’s gallery-do their visions match yours? Do you like what you see?
2-Photographer experience-Aside from having a clear knowledge of general photography and the exposure triangle, Newborn Photographers should know how to handle babies. Infants have special needs and they cannot communicate these needs clearly. Newborn photographers should have experience handling a baby safely and understand medical concerns. Newborn photographers should understand whats important when a baby has low blood sugar, jaundice, a broken clavicle, is breech, or is just plain hungry and more! Ask your prospective photographer questions. Be sure to communicate any special needs your baby may have.
Another way to check your photographer’s experience is to see a wide variety of clients in their gallery. Are there only 2-3 babies posted? or many? Of course a photography cannot display all of their work, but you should see a good client base suggesting greater experience.
3-Photography safe practices-Is your photographer baby led? Do they choose safe poses? Are they careful to support new baby muscles and ligaments. While many poses are “cute,” not all poses are safe or even desireable. Your photography should always put your baby’s best interests first.
4-Registered Photographer Business-Is your photographer registered in your area as a business? Do they carry insurance? Do they offer a contract? These practices insure their safety and YOURS. Be sure you are dealing with a professional.
As you begin your search for a newborn photographer, these tips will help insure a wonderful experience with beautiful work you can treasure.
